A dance fitness program that was created by dancer and choreographer Alberto Perez in Colombia during the 1990s is called zumba. Making the exercise more fun, the program combines Latin and international music with dance. Today, there are over 90,000 fitness center locations already in almost 110 countries. Basically, music is the key ingredient to Zumba dance fitness classes. Licensed instructors are the one offering its program with over ten millions active participants. In fact, it is once recognized by America’s leading fitness educators including the Aerobic Fitness Association of America, the American Council on exercise and the IDEA Health and Fitness Association.
Zumba means moving quickly and having fun. It is a Latin-inspired fitness class. Zumba is known to be a dynamic, exciting as well as effective dance exercise. The zumba program combines dance styles such as cumbia, salsa, merengue, flamenco, cha-cha, mambo, reggaeton, samba, belly dancing, bhangra, tango and hip-hop. Unlike other dance exercise workout, its dance movements are easy to follow. The easy to follow movements means that anyone can join immediately. The good thing about Zumba is that it is intended for all. Women and men can both do the dance exercise even children. When you are going to zumba class you feel like attending a party with friends.
For many who have tried Zumba says its effective in building stamina and losing weight. Even by just a couple of classes you will immediately feel effects on your stamina. It’s not just an ordinary dance fitness however some sort of workout. A lot of people preferred this kind of dance exercise because the whole body is involved. Legs are constantly moving and arms join in once you know the exercise and the rest of other body parts including the whole body follow.
Let yourself go with Zumba as after exercising you won’t feel that your muscles are aching because you can possibly follow your own tempo so you won’t be force to do the dance rhythm you can’t carry. Now, you and your workout or dance partners can perform the dance exercise party at home.

How much do you enjoy dancing? Maybe you’re looking to get in shape. The good news is that along with hundreds of thousands of people around the world, you’ll find the Zumba videos are a perfect choice to get in shape. The Zumba videos are perfect for anyone that doesn’t want to go to classes at a health center because they can be done out of your own home.
So what exactly is Zumba?
The different types of dance styles include hip hop, jazz, flamenco, salsa, the mambo, and even the merengue. Now that’s what I call diversity. The Zumba videos are lead by Beto, the instructor, and he’s going to have you moving and shaking to a bunch of different fast paced dance routines. You’ll be doing these moves to the same rhythm as the other people on the videos. This is not only a wonderful exercise, but Zumba is also a lot of fun.
With the Zumba videos popularity raising so many more people have been able to learn some different cultures dances. It all started with classes based out of Miami, FL as the creator and choreographer, Beto Perez, began the meteoric rise of Zumba. His students loved the music, the rhythmic techniques, and his endless energy. Soonafter, the Zumba videos were created and classes were sprang up almost everywhere.
Why Does Zumba Work?
What makes Zumba different, because dancing for fitness is not a new idea by any means. Anyone that can go back and remember the 80′s most likely remember Richard Simmons and his Dancing to the Oldies. Thanksfully Zumba isn’t anything like that though. Zumba uses actually the dance steps themselves to go along with the different types of music that’s being played.
Zumba has fast become a great alternate when it comes to cardio traning. Also it’s a great alternative to traditional aerobics. The constant movement, involving the whole body will make you sweat more or less minutes, but it is great for fat loss. You’ll end up burning anywhere from 700-1000 calories during a one hour session, depending on the intensity that you bring.
It’s so much fun because these moves make it to where it doesn’t even feel like you’re working out. If you’re feeling good afterwards, you’ll be able to bring these dance moves out with you when you go out because you’ll learn how to move to the beat which means you’re actually doing real dancing.
Common Concerns
A lot of people before they start Zumba, are worried that they will not be able to keep it up. The videos are designed so you will be able to enjoy it and move at your own pace. Plus you’ll be able to do it in your own living room so you won’t have anything to worry about if you struggle in the beginning to get a move down. If you can not handle a specialized move, you can always stop and rest.
All in all I highly recommend the Zumba videos as they are a great workout that is extremely enjoyable.

Do you really have fun when you’re dancing? Maybe you’re looking to get in shape. The good news is that along with hundreds of thousands of people around the world, you’ll find the Zumba videos are a perfect choice to get in shape. The Zumba videos are perfect for anyone that doesn’t want to go to classes at a health center because they can be done out of your own home.
So what exactly is Zumba?
The different types of dance styles include hip hop, jazz, flamenco, salsa, the mambo, and even the merengue. Now that’s what I call diversity. The Zumba videos are lead by Beto, the instructor, and he’s going to have you moving and shaking to a bunch of different fast paced dance routines. You’ll be doing these moves to the same rhythm as the other people on the videos. Zumba is a ton of fun, along with it being a great workout.
So many more people have been able to learn and enjoy different cultures favorite dance moves with the rise in popularity of the Zumba videos. The creator and choreographer, Beto Perez, began training classes initially which his students really enjoyed at his fitness centers in Miami, FL. His energy is very contageous as he brings the rhytmic techniques and passion. Soonafter, the Zumba videos were created and classes were sprang up almost everywhere.
Why Does Zumba Work?
By no means is the conception of dancing for fitness new, so what makes Zumba different? Anyone that can go back and remember the 80′s most likely remember Richard Simmons and his Dancing to the Oldies. Thanksfully Zumba isn’t anything like that though. Zumba happens to use the actual dance steps that go with the types of music that is played.
Zumba has fast become a great alternate when it comes to cardio traning. Also it’s a great alternative to traditional aerobics. You’ll consitantely be moving which will involve the entire body. You’ll simply burn many more calories involving your whole body which is obviously important. You’ll burn up to somewhere between 700-1000 calories during one hour of training, depending largely upon the intensity that you bring.
It’s so much fun because these moves make it to where it doesn’t even feel like you’re working out. You move to a beat, making the exercise much more interesting and the fact that they are based on real dancing means you have the possibility of taking these steps in the nightclubs. The Zumba videos are not only about burning calories, but it’s about having fun while doing so and learning some things.

The Benefits of Latin Dance Lessons
Latin dance is enjoying unprecedented popularity, with more and more people falling in love with the fast pace and peerless passion of salsa, mambo, and tango. Additionally, more and more clubs are featuring salsa nights, tango nights and the like – perfect for the Latin dancer.
Who Can Learn Latin Dancing?
Latin dance is open to all. It doesn’t matter if you’re young or old. There is a Latin dance class that is right for you. Anyone with the desire to learn and the ability to listen to the music and move their body can learn the basics of Latin dance. Obviously, the more diligently you practice, and the more time you spend on the dance floor, the better your progress will be. Some people choose to learn Latin dance as a way to have fun, in order to enjoy the clubs and socialize with their friends. Latin dance offers several health benefits. The level of physical activity involved in Latin dance offers a great cardiovascular workout. Not only do you exercise your heart, you improve your circulation. Latin dancers build core body strength, tone and tighten muscles, and lose weight. It’s not unusual to experience an increase in balance and general overall wellness.
The Emotional Benefits of Latin Dancing
Latin dancing offers many emotional benefits as well. First and foremost, Latin dance lessons are fun. Having something enjoyable to look forward to on a regular basis is one of the best ways to lift your mood. Learning how to dance builds confidence and self esteem. Additionally, the friendships people make during Latin dance lessons play a pivotal role in socialization and overall emotional health. Research shows us that people who have a strong network of friends live longer, healthier lives.
Exploring Group or Individual Latin Dance Lessons
You can learn Latin Dance in a group setting, or you can meet with an instructor individually for private lessons. There are pros and cons to each approach. Group lessons offer valuable socialization and support. You learn in a group, which means you have a chance to observe others as they’re learning the same steps you are. This can be very valuable. Additionally, group dance lessons are often a great place to meet and make friends.
Individual dance lessons are great if you’re preparing for a special dance event, wish to work seriously on a specific skill, or train for a competitive dance event.

Cuba’s contribution to music across the globe is perhaps the largest of any single nation. Son, salsa, rumba, mambo, chachachá, charanga, and danzón all owe their existence to Cuba’s talented artists. Cuban music has the power to get you shaking your hips before you even realize the radio was turned on.
Cuban music has roots in Spain and Africa, but has been influenced by a number of diverse sources. The music from Cuba has also influenced other countries, including Argentinean tango, Dominican Bachata and Merengue, and Ghanaian high-life.
Rumba: Part of Cuba’s African soul, this energetic blend of drums and dancing is best seen in Matanzas. The music performed at the docks in Matanzas was first performed here in the 1890s, and is still full of religious iconography and painful echoes of slavery. The conga drums, claves, palitos, marugas, and cajones create the blissful rhythm, while the leading vocals and chorus make for harmonious heaven. While often an informal performance, the rumba is always exciting to watch.
Salsa: Many people argue about the origins of Salsa, technically it emerged out of the Latin New York scene in the 1960s and 70s, but the Cubans are masters. If you aren’t convinced, take salsa lessons in Havana or watch the pros at one of the city’s two Casa de la Música.
Reggaetón: The concoction of rap, hip-hop, reggae, and dance plays throughout Cuba in parks, schoolyards, car radios, and clubs. This gritty music has surprisingly gained support from the country’s government, who believe reggaetón plays a constructive social role in the Cuban youth. Fidel Castro even allegedly tried his hand at rapping at a Havana baseball game, and has described reggaetón as “the vanguard of the Revolution.”
Nueva trova: This new genre emerged in February 1968 at the Primer Encuentro de la Canción Protesta, a concert at the Casa de las Américas in Havana. This mini-Woodstock resounded among leftists worldwide as a revolutionary alternative to American rock and roll. Seen as the soundtrack to the Cuban Revolution, Pablo Milanés and Carlos Puebla are the greatest advocates of nueva trova.
Son-Changuí: This dynamic rural music would best be described as a mix between rumba and danzón. Son-Changuí is a blend of African drum and Spanish guitar, which was born in provincial sugar refineries. In Santiago they call the sound “son” and in the Guantánamo province it is named “sonchangui,” either way, it is spectacular.

Boogaloo originated in New York City among teenage Cubans and Puerto Ricans. The style was a fusion of popular African American R&B, rock and roll and soul with mambo and son montuno. Boogaloo entered the mainstream through the American Bandstand television program. The boogaloo dance was loose and interpretive in style. Early Boogaloo used a twelve-step sequence that was later sped up into a thirty-step sequence. The most common musical feature was a mid-tempo, looping melody that doubled as the anchoring rhythm, often played on piano or by the horn section. The presence of vocals, especially a catchy, anthematic chorus, was another distinguishing feature, especially in comparison to more instrumental dances like the mambo, guajira and guaracha. Nowadays, the footwork is similar to Pachanga, but tends to be fast and bouncy like jive and also usually counted over an eight beat pattern. In the 1950s and 60s, African Americans in the United States listened to a number of styles of music, including jump blues, R&B and doo wop. Puerto Ricans in New York City shared in these tastes, but also listened to genres like mambo or chachacha. There was much …

Ballroom dancing is more popular than ever.
