Choosing The Right Dance Studio For Learning Salsa

There are dance studios out there that are ran more like a boot camp format and also some dance studios that go at a very relax pace for those who enroll as a casual hobby.
If you want to learn proper leading and following techniques in your Salsa dance studio than you should interview your instructors a little more pertaining to their experience in Salsa dancing and Salsa dancing instructions in the dance studio. Don’t hesitate to ask your Salsa dance instructors it the dance studio about his or her thoughts on these topics. Ask your instructors at the dance studio about their thoughts on Salsa dancing styles, leading, following, and their definitions of beginner, intermediate, and advance at the dance studio. You will find that every Salsa instructor and almost every dance studio has a different perspective on Salsa dancing.
If you are learning how to dance to compete than be sure to ask your Salsa instructor and the dance studio’s experience on preparing choreographies. Just because one is a good dancer does not mean that they can choreograph the same way.

If one wants to dance Salsa socially outside of the dance studio than there should be no movements taught in the Salsa class that involved having to memorizing turn patterns. Every move has to be lead and be followed without memorizing steps. Make sure that you pay attention to how the Salsa turn patterns are being taught at the dance studio.
Ensure that the instructor’s philosophies are congruent with yours at the dance studio.
Some dance studios will teach you the essence of dancing and some dance studios and instructors will teach one how to dance with precise and correct techniques. Once again explore the philosophies of the Salsa dance studio.
Is the environment of the Salsa dance studio suitable for you?
Ask yourself how you feel about the environment of the dance studio. Does it give a warm feeling; does it make you want to dance when you are at the dance studio? Are the students and staff welcoming when you arrived at the Salsa dance studio? Ensure that your Salsa instructor, staff and students at the dance studio make you feel welcomed consists. Ensure that the ambience suits you when selecting a dance studio. The environment at the studio should make you feel welcomed and want to instantly dance whenever you are there.
Also ask your instructor at the dance studio about the size of the Salsa classes. The size should be reason so that the instructor could pay attention to every student at the dance studio during classes. If you notice that classes are very large and there is no enough room to move than you should question if profit is the only factor behind the dance studio.

His interest in Salsa dancing spawned in 2006 where he was invited to a party with a theme of Salsa dancing. Not knowing how to even spell “Salsa”, he immediately subscribed for a Salsa crash course 2 weeks prior to the event. Through many days of intense training he was able to lead a few basic turn patterns. Due to his busy entrepreneurial work schedule he has departed from Salsa training until 2008. Being passionate in martial arts, he wanted to find other activities that will complement his progression and passion in his martial arts training. It is then he gave Salsa another try.
At that moment he met his current instructor Yared Rodriguez. His interest for Salsa spiked again after seeing how his teacher danced. He was amazed at how Yared could make the simplest turn pattern looked really advanced. He thought that the style of his teacher was spectacular as to how he can fuse various different styles of Salsa without being restricted by their “styles” using Cuban Salsa as the foundation. Every turn pattern and body movement performed was in sync with the music that is being played. It was at the moment where William’s Salsa goals were established.
William is still training with Yared Rodriguez to date to continue to enhance his techniques in Salsa dancing.

William Lu (Program Coordinator, Assistant Instructor)
William’s background is in business management and IT. He is the co-founder of Call4PcHelp an IT consulting firm providing services to his GTA clientele. His interest in Salsa dancing spawned in 2006 where he was invited to a party with a theme of Salsa dancing. Not knowing how to even spell “Salsa”, he immediately subscribed for a Salsa crash course 2 weeks prior to the event. Through many days of intense training he was able to lead a few basic turn patterns. Due to his busy entrepreneurial work schedule he has departed from Salsa training until 2008. Being passionate in martial arts, he wanted to find other activities that will complement his progression and passion in his martial arts training. It is then he gave Salsa another try.
At that moment he met his current instructor Yared Rodriguez. His interest for Salsa spiked again after seeing how his teacher danced. He was amazed at how Yared could make the simplest turn pattern looked really advanced. He thought that the style of his teacher was spectacular as to how he can fuse various different styles of Salsa without being restricted by their “styles” using Cuban Salsa as the foundation. Every turn pattern and body movement performed was in sync with the music that is being played. It was at the moment where William’s Salsa goals were established.
William is still training with Yared Rodriguez to date to continue to enhance his techniques in Salsa dancing.

Adult dance lessons can be a fun way to get some of that daily exercise we all need. Dance is a great way to get a cardio work out and have fun at the same time. Taking dance lessons no matter how old you are will be beneficial for your health.
First: dancing classes are going to improve your flexibility, which is an important part of your health especially as you age. Before a class of any sort begins, the instructor usually has the students do stretching exercises to warm their muscles up and prevent injury or cramping. To perform most dances, you will be bending and stretching. This will increase your muscles range of motion and keep you moving easily a lot longer.
Second: Taking part in Dancing lessons increase the strength in your muscles by forcing them to resist against the weight of your own body. If you participate in Jazz or ballet style dancing, you will be required to do a lot of jumping. Jumping takes a lot of strength in the leg muscles.
Third: Adult dancing lessons build endurance. Dancing is physical exercise. The more we perform physical exercises the longer our endurance becomes. The longer our endurance becomes, the longer we can perform or work or do anything physical without getting tired.
Fourth: Sense of well-being. Dancing is a very social activity. Attending a class or going out dancing provides us with the opportunity to meet new people and interact with them. This will increase a persons self- confidence and help to build better social skills. Physical activity has also been proven to reduce stress and tension.
There are several different types and styles of dancing. Everyone should be able to find a method of dance that they can physically do and enjoy. You have the choices of Ballroom, jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop, and many more. You can choose if you would like to take group adult dance lessons with a class or private lessons for a more one on one experience. It is extremely popular to take dance lessons before your wedding. There are classes that concentrate on the wedding dances and help a bride and groom to be choreograph that all important wedding dance.
Choosing where to take dancing instruction can be the hardest part. There are several good instructors located in almost every city. There are a couple of things to consider before you choose your instructor. If you want to be a contender in dancing competitions, then look for an instructor who has good experience in competitive dancing. Ask about the instructors credentials if you want to train for competitions, the right instructor can make all the difference.
If you are more inclined to take adult dance lessons so you could perform at weddings, parties, in night clubs or other social situations, then you need an instructor who is teaching social dancing. If you are a couple you may even want specialized instruction in ballroom dancing for the two of you or attend salsa classes. Adult dance lessons allows you and your partner to spend quality time together as well as get physically healthier and fitter.

Dancing to me is like a reflex action to music! Dancers, both male and female, have a great body shape. Are you wondering if dance routines to lose weight really work? Read on to know the answer.
Can Dance Routines Help to Lose Weight?
Yes, dance routines do help to lose weight. But, one has to participate in a dance session which is fast paced. Dancing is a fun aerobic exercise, which helps to improve oxygen levels in your body and helps to burn calories. The important thing when going for dance routines to lose weight, is to choose a dance form which you enjoy and which is high paced. By high paced dancing, I mean that you should be moving your muscles fast enough to start sweating. A dance routine should be done at least 20 minutes a day to lose weight.
Dance is an art form, and is also a very enjoyable workout to shed excess calories. One might get bored sometimes to go to a gym. But, dancing is fun and you can do it at home too, without having to take an expensive gym membership!
Dance Routines to Lose Weight
Selecting one of the dance routines to lose weight is important. Choose a dance routine which has body movements and music you like. If you have been wanting to learn salsa, join classes in a Latin dance studio. If you like rhythmic and graceful movements, ballet dancing is a good choice. If you like step dancing, then there are many hip-hop dance classes for which you can enroll. By enrolling for classes, you will be learning a dance form, and also socializing with other people. However, if you wish to dance at home alone, all you need is some high-beat music and you can start your own dance workouts to lose weight.
Dancing for weight loss is a workout, so it is important that you do a warm-up of at least 7-10 minutes like mild jogging. Warm-up is very essential before a workout and never skip a warm-up as one might get injuries during exercise without warm-up. Wear a comfortable pair of shoes, for preventing injuries and better dance movements. Here are some dance routines to lose weight.
Salsa Dance: You will learn a popular and fun dance form in a salsa dance class. Salsa dancing helps greatly to burn calories and tone up your body. Quick step salsa is one of the best dance routines to lose weight.
Hip-hop Dance: If you like step dancing and hip hop music, go for hip hop dance classes. You will not only be shedding off those excess calories, but also meeting people who have similar interests.
Aerobic Dance: These dance classes are especially designed for losing weight and toning up your body. By following the dance instructor one can learn this dance and burn calories.
Belly Dance: Belly dancing is an interesting dance form one can learn, and tone up the body like Shakira! You will easily lose the excess belly fat and other fat from your body with belly dancing.
Home Dance Routine: For home dance workouts to lose weight, there are many ways to form a routine. You can just play some high-beat music, and dance high paced for 20 minutes in the beginning. As your stamina increases, increase your dance workout time. You can also get home videos on dancing, and follow the video instructions.

Why Salsa Dancing Is So Much Fun

The word “salsa” in Spanish means sauce. Salsa dancing is also known as slot dancing because couples don’t move around a large area of the dance floor; instead they stay in a more fixed or smaller area of the floor. So are you ready to learn Salsa dancing?
The salsa has an eight beat pattern that is made up of two bars of four beats. The Salsa music is usually complicated and fast with around 180 beats per minute. The salsa pattern is generally one of three steps and then a skipped step or a tap on the fourth beat.
The basic step is as follows: On counts 1, 2, and 3 the leader steps forward, then you replace the weight to your previous support foot keeping it in place, and then step backward. On counts 5, 6, and 7 you step backwards, then you replace the weight to your previous support foot keeping it in place, and then step forward again.
The follower does exactly the same steps but in the reverse order. The basic step is the basis for many of the other salsa patterns.
Some of the breaks to the basic step are:
1. Side Break – You start from either foot and step sideways; then you replace the weight to your previous support foot, keeping it in place.
2. Back Break – You start from either foot and step backwards; then you replace the weight to your previous support foot, keeping it in place.
3. Forward Break – You start from either foot and step forward; then you replace the weight to your previous support foot, keeping it in place.
There are many different salsa styles that involve different timing of the steps or different patterns as you move across the dance floor. Combine style with attitude and personal add ins and you get quite the salsa show!
The Cuban style can be danced as a contratiempo or on-one. With the Cuban Salsa, on counts 1, 2, and 3 a backward basic occurs while on counts 5, 6, and 7 a forward basic happens. The follower mirrors the leader’s movements. It is common practice with the Cuban to have the leader and follower circle each other regularly.
The Dile que no or cross body lead is also essential to the Cuban. This is the most complex of moves and is not designed for beginners. However, once you master it, it can be used in the Rueda, Cuban Casino, and Wheel Dance.
In Latin American countries the Columbian style is the most common. Here the leader and follower do their moves standing in one place. Most of the moves are based off the Cuban style with the main difference being lack of space involved. It’s a very sexy version to watch!
The LA style is a derivative of the Cuban style with the addition of the cross body lead. The leader steps forward on 1, on 2 and 3 it’s a step to the right while turning 90 degrees to face to the left. The follower then steps forward on 5 and 6, then on 7 and 8 turns while the leader is making the 90 degree turn. By the 8 count the leader and follower are in opposite positions. The Los Angeles is the flashiest form of Salsa dancing.
That’s just a few of the most common styles. Of course there are plenty others, and then there’s always the creative element that comes into play.
Learning the Salsa from an article can be a bit overwhelming, but if you really want to learn it check into either local dance classes or online dance lessons. You’ll be Salsa dancing like a pro in no time!

When Ann Jenkins was told that her daughter Amy was having trouble interacting with the other kids in her kindergarten class, she was at a loss for words.
