Salsa dancing is likely a term that you have heard and you may be wondering what it is. This type of dancing comes from Puerto Rico and Cuba. It is believed that it was brought to other destinations from migrants that traveled around for work. Many people take an interest in salsa dancing after seeing it performed when they visit those countries where it came from.

It is important to note that there are many variations though of salsa dances. Those are usually geographical in nature so you will find that of interest when you go to a new area and see people engaging in salsa dancing. Keep in mind though that there is plenty of freedom with this type of dance so you don’t have to feel out of place if you have moves that are different than those you see around you.

There are some basic moves involved though that you will want to become familiar with. There is a four beat measure that you need to be able to identify within the music. Basically you will be moving for three of the beats and then still for one of them which gives it a very dramatic effect. The weight of your body has to be shifted with the beats too so you will have to take time to learn how this is done. Observing others doing it is a great way to see what I am talking about as well.

What is fascinating about salsa dancing is that the entire body is involved in it. The arms and the legs take on many forms throughout the music. The hips and buttocks are moving as well so it is a great way to get your entire body to relax and to relieve built up tension. Salsa dancing is extremely popular in the society of New York City so if you go there be ready to go out and have some great fun meeting people and dancing the night away.

This type of dancing seems to go through trends of popularity though in our various cultures. Some people think that salsa dancing is fairly new but it has been around since the 1950’s. There have been quite a few variations of it since that time. Generally the salsa is a dance that two people do together. However, there are some variations of it that involve solo dancing or exchanging partners during the dance.

Don’t be intimidated by salsa dancing as it may look complex at first but it really isn’t. Many of the moves are quite repetitive after you have learned the basics of it. The key is to have a good time with it and not to focus on being perfect with off of your moves. The style you have will get better the more you dance.

A word of warning though – salsa dancing is going to give you quite a workout! You don’t want to just show up at a club and think you can do them if you aren’t in good shape. You need to practice at home so you can do the moves for a long time without getting tired or working up a sweat. In fact, salsa dancing is a great way to burn calories and get into shape while you are having a great time.

Many locations offer salsa dancing lessons too if you are interested in learning more moves. They are offered for beginners as well as some advanced lessons so take the time to find out what your choices are. You just may find that your new weekend outing you look forward to is going out salsa dancing for the evening!

Dance is the most fun workout to lose weight. By dancing the right way, one can maintain an attractive body shape. Keep reading to learn more about dance routines to lose weight.

Many people say they can’t dance. Well, everybody can dance, it is just that you have to co-ordinate the right movements with the music. And, there are people like me who love dancing. Dancing to me is like a reflex action to music! Dancers, both male and female, have a great body shape. Are you wondering if dance routines to lose weight really work? Read on to know the answer.

Can Dance Routines Help to Lose Weight?

Yes, dance routines do help to lose weight. But, one has to participate in a dance session which is fast paced. Dancing is a fun aerobic exercise, which helps to improve oxygen levels in your body and helps to burn calories. The important thing when going for dance routines to lose weight, is to choose a dance form which you enjoy and which is high paced. By high paced dancing, I mean that you should be moving your muscles fast enough to start sweating. A dance routine should be done at least 20 minutes a day to lose weight.

Dance is an art form, and is also a very enjoyable workout to shed excess calories. One might get bored sometimes to go to a gym. But, dancing is fun and you can do it at home too, without having to take an expensive gym membership!

Dance Routines to Lose Weight

Selecting one of the dance routines to lose weight is important. Choose a dance routine which has body movements and music you like. If you have been wanting to learn salsa, join classes in a Latin dance studio. If you like rhythmic and graceful movements, ballet dancing is a good choice. If you like step dancing, then there are many hip-hop dance classes for which you can enroll. By enrolling for classes, you will be learning a dance form, and also socializing with other people. However, if you wish to dance at home alone, all you need is some high-beat music and you can start your own dance workouts to lose weight.

Dancing for weight loss is a workout, so it is important that you do a warm-up of at least 7-10 minutes like mild jogging. Warm-up is very essential before a workout and never skip a warm-up as one might get injuries during exercise without warm-up. Wear a comfortable pair of shoes, for preventing injuries and better dance movements. Here are some dance routines to lose weight.

Salsa Dance: You will learn a popular and fun dance form in a salsa dance class. Salsa dancing helps greatly to burn calories and tone up your body. Quick step salsa is one of the best dance routines to lose weight.

Hip-hop Dance: If you like step dancing and hip hop music, go for hip hop dance classes. You will not only be shedding off those excess calories, but also meeting people who have similar interests.

Aerobic Dance: These dance classes are especially designed for losing weight and toning up your body. By following the dance instructor one can learn this dance and burn calories.

Belly Dance: Belly dancing is an interesting dance form one can learn, and tone up the body like Shakira! You will easily lose the excess belly fat and other fat from your body with belly dancing.

Home Dance Routine: For home dance workouts to lose weight, there are many ways to form a routine. You can just play some high-beat music, and dance high paced for 20 minutes in the beginning. As your stamina increases, increase your dance workout time. You can also get home videos on dancing, and follow the video instructions.

    A dance fitness program that was created by dancer and choreographer Alberto Perez in Colombia during the 1990s is called zumba.  Making the exercise more fun, the program combines Latin and international music with dance. Today, there are over 90,000 fitness center locations already in almost 110 countries.  Basically, music is the key ingredient to Zumba dance fitness classes.  Licensed instructors are the one offering its program with over ten millions active participants.  In fact, it is once recognized by America’s leading fitness educators including the Aerobic Fitness Association of America, the American Council on exercise and the IDEA Health and Fitness Association.

    Zumba means moving quickly and having fun.  It is a Latin-inspired fitness class.  Zumba is known to be a dynamic, exciting as well as effective dance exercise.  The zumba program combines dance styles such as cumbia, salsa, merengue, flamenco, cha-cha, mambo, reggaeton, samba, belly dancing, bhangra, tango and hip-hop.  Unlike other dance exercise workout, its dance movements are easy to follow.  The easy to follow movements means that anyone can join immediately.  The good thing about Zumba is that it is intended for all.  Women and men can both do the dance exercise even children.  When you are going to zumba class you feel like attending a party with friends.

    For many who have tried Zumba says its effective in building stamina and losing weight.  Even by just a couple of classes you will immediately feel effects on your stamina. It’s not just an ordinary dance fitness however some sort of workout.  A lot of people preferred this kind of dance exercise because the whole body is involved.  Legs are constantly moving and arms join in once you know the exercise and the rest of other body parts including the whole body follow.

    Let yourself go with Zumba as after exercising you won’t feel that your muscles are aching because you can possibly follow your own tempo so you won’t be force to do the dance rhythm you can’t carry. Now, you and your workout or dance partners can perform the dance exercise party at home.

Players can customize their routines, allowing them to focus on working out specific parts of their bodies. Wii Fit includes more than 40 types of training activities designed to appeal to anyone from casual gamers to hardcore fitness buffs. The “Plus” version has several new features, including new strength-training exercises, yoga activities and more balance mini-games.

      Your Shape: Fitness Evolved (Xbox 360)

      This is one title that might literally leave you breathless, but for all the right reasons. “Your Shape: Fitness Evolved” talks and walks you through precise movements to improve your cardio and work out your muscles. Using the Kinect, the Xbox’s answer to Nintendo’s Wii, the game measures your body size and structure. You then use a hand-motion menu to enter your age, weight and exercise habits so the game won’t overexert you. Within minutes you’ll be following along with the Tai chi and yoga moves of an on-screen instructor, who leads you through the movements and at the end of each routine gives you a score for your performance based on how well you stay in rhythm and mimic her deep knee bends. This is by far the most impressive fitness game for the Xbox 360.

      EA Sports Active 2 (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii)

      EA Sports Active 2 is not your typical video game exercise routine. Equipped with three sensors that connect wirelessly to your console of choice, expect to undergo an exhausting 9-week exercise program. There are numerous exercises in numerous categories – from cardio to upper body. You can create custom workouts out of these exercises to suit your needs. The arm sensor also serves as a heart rate monitor, which – says EA – tracks how well your hate rate recovers following exercises. For those looking for a real workout, you can’t go wrong with EA Sports Active 2.

      Dance Central (Xbox 360)

      With “Dance Central,” players mimic the on-screen character’s dance moves for high scores while jumping and gyrating to songs from top artists like Lady Gaga and Kylie Minogue. You can master the moves individually and then launch into a dance battle to string them together to the music. A circle beneath the on-screen feet glows green when you hit the moves correctly and glows red when you muff them. The game tracks your calories during your routines and has settings for different intensities. This is a top-shelf dancing title and is essential for Xbox Kinect users whether you intend to use it for your workout or not.

      The Biggest Loser: Ultimate Workout / Challenge (Xbox 360, Wii)

      Based on the hit NBC reality show, these two games feature trainers Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper, who provide interactive workouts and nutrition goals. The games feature more than 125 exercises that will help you lose weight and get in shape. The Xbox 360 version, developed exclusively for the Kinect motion controller, includes several unique features, such as video diaries and online workout friends. Though these games lack a sense of polish, they are a serious workout tool for players looking to get fit. No mini games or fun, casual challenges here.

      Kinect Sports (Xbox 360)

      Kinect Sports is a collection of six sport games (bowling, boxing, track and field, table tennis, football and volleyball) that not only serves as a great way to get in shape using Microsoft’s new motion controller, but is also accessible and fun for the whole family. There’s not nearly as much fun to be had here solo as there is playing with friends, but provided you have plenty of space in front of your TV, and you’re OK with working up a sweat while playing, you’re sure to have a good time. What makes this game different from other motion controlled sports games, like Wii Sports or PS3′s Sports Champion, is that your entire body is a controller. That’s means you can’t simply sit on the couch and successfully play this game. It constantly makes you move, and – though it may not be as intense as other fitness games – it is a fun way to burn calories and get off the couch.

      Active NFL Training Camp (Wii)

      The EA Sports Active franchise has carved out a successful fitness-focused niche on the Wii. While previous games have been about general fitness, EA Sports Active NFL Training Camp boasts a more specific theme – football – and you choose what team you want to train you. Like EA Active 2, one of the major differences in this iteration of the EA Sports Active franchise is the total-body tracking system. Ditching the nunchuk and its cord, this system uses the remote in conjunction with two new sensors: one on your thigh, the other on your arm. The workouts in NFL Training Camp are similar to what you might find NFL players doing – running and sprinting in place, kicking field goals, and throwing footballs. There are also strength-training exercises that use the included resistance band. A gruff-voiced “trainer” provides words of encouragement. If you’re looking to improve your 40-yard-dash time, this may be the game for you.

      Zumba Fitness (Xbox 360, Wii, PS3)

      Zumba Fitness is a dance workout game featuring nine different dance styles, including salsa, hip-hop, and mambo. Nearly 1 million Americans have taken the popular studio classes, following the moves of 3,500 instructors, according to Zumba’s official website. If you are a huge Zumba enthusiast and already own all the workout DVDs, this will be a great new way to experience your favorite routines. But for new users, the game lacks any form of instruction for beginners while playing the game. Players will find themselves at times confused on what moves to do next, especially if you are not familiar with the fitness classes. But that doesn’t mean the game doesn’t work: you will break a sweat and burn calories.

      Sports Champion (PS3)

      Described as “the ultimate sports challenge” on the box, Sports Champion is a modest but varied collection of sports games that puts the PlayStation Move motion controller to good use. Almost none of the games (disc golf, beach volleyball, archery, table tennis, bocce, and gladiator duel) are obvious choices for inclusion in a collection that boasts only six different sports, but they’re all fun, and while most are best enjoyed with friends, there’s a good amount of single-player content as well. Like Nintendo’s Wii Sports, Sports Champions is a game that isn’t focused specifically on fitness, but the mini games are a fun way to raise your heart rate and get you off the couch

      When Ann Jenkins was told that her daughter Amy was having trouble interacting with the other kids in her kindergarten class, she was at a loss for words. You see, Amy had always been a little shy around other kids, but after she “warmed up” she was usually fine. Why was kindergarten class any different? Amy’s teacher told Ann that she felt Amy lacked self-confidence and that the other kids recognized this and picked on her. When Ann asked the teacher what to do, she was surprised at her response: “Enroll Amy in dance lessons”.

      Initially shocked that dance could help her daughter psychologically, Ann started to do some research. Here’s what she found out about the benefits of dance for children

      If you are interested in zumba then a zumba fitness review can provide you all the information you would need about this popular new form of exercise. Zumba is basically a type of dance exercise where you will use dance steps form rock & roll, cumbia, meringue, mambo, salsa, belly dancing, calypso and the cha cha to help get fit and lose weight.

      There are all many fitness levels to zumba including one for those over 50 and have limited mobility or are in a wheel chair. Zumba has been found to help improve balance, flexibility and is a great workout for the heart. Many people have so much fun they actually forget that they are taking an exercise class.

      You can get many benefits from zumba that include getting rid of stress, improved motion control, improved bone density, enhanced self esteem, improve brain function and much more. These classes also make it possible to get out and meet new people and get some great exercise.

      Zumba classes are scheduled to last for an hour and on average you can expect to burn about 500 calories depending on your size. This is the same as many other forms of exercise such as swimming, running or playing sports. Zumba is just as effective if not more so than many other forms of exercise and makes a great change up if you are in an exercise rut.

      You can find Zumba classes at most fitness clubs and gyms as well as at YMCA and community centers. If you are having some difficulty finding a class then go and search online. If you realize that there are not any classes close by you should talk to a local gym to see about bringing in a class. If enough people show interest than you may be able to get a regular class started.

      If you really love Zumba than you should think about becoming an instructor. It does not take very long to become a certified Zumba instructor though you will have to choose between the Zumba Gold and the Zumba Basic Step. These certification classes are available for 1 day and 2 day classes.

      You do not have to take a test and you will learn how to lead in a group situation. Certification lasts for a year and then you will need to renew it to remain an instructor. You should be able to find Zumba certification classes where ever Zumba is offered. If you are tired with your current exercise then give zumba a try.

      Are you tired of the classical exercises of jogging, bodybuilding, stretching, and gym training? Then you better take into consideration of salsa dancing. Dancing is also a form of exercise. Salsa would be a good choice if you are to start a new exercise regimen.

      Salsa involves a pair of dancers who intricately moves their arms and legs. This dance is very prominent to the majority of the population. A beat is skipped in the usual four-beat form using three steps in making salsa patterns. The name of the dance came from the Spanish word “salsa” which means sauce in English. This is because of the dance moves and techniques involved in salsa, which would be described as pungent and passionate.

      Learning the salsa dance is not difficult. You begin the basics by modeling specific dance patterns into four-beat music.

      From there, you could now proceed to the 7 FUNDAMENTAL STEPS in learning HOW TO DANCE SALSA:

      On the first count, step forward with your left foot. Next, step in place with your right and bring your left foot back to center on the third count.

      Then pause at the fourth count or you could voluntarily tap your right foot.

      Remember that each step requires a full weight transfer.

      Finally on the eighth count, exhibit another pause.

      Since salsa is a dance with partners, be alert and careful that as one goes through the steps above, the other would move the other way around. With one’s left foot forward, the other’s right foot steps back.

      Anyone can be a dancer of salsa with its simple patterns. Nonetheless, improvement must always be present. Grace must be practiced in order to be blended with your moves. By doing so, you would get good effects on your dance. Dexterity would then be developed. There are different beats, patterns, and music which are variations of salsa. The elegant Cuban salsa would be one good example of a salsa variation. The Los Angeles style of salsa would also be another good comparison. Take your pick on which one to master!

      Salsa would help you maintain a fit figure and also have a good exercise plan (which saves you gym expenses). That is just a part of its benefits. It also gives you new friends when you interact with a partner, gain self-confidence better, and acquire skills. This dance could even change the way you look in life!

      With more friends and better health you will start to see just a few of the benefits of Salsa come your way!

      While you explore this new exercise in its magnificent form of expression, be sure to keep these few things covered:

      Salsa involves a pair of dancers who intricately moves their arms and legs. This dance is very prominent to the majority of the population. A beat is skipped in the usual four-beat form using three steps in making salsa patterns. The name of the dance came from the Spanish word “salsa” which means sauce in English. This is because of the dance moves and techniques involved in salsa, which would be described as pungent and passionate.

      Learning the salsa dance is not difficult. You begin the basics by modeling specific dance patterns into four-beat music.

      From there, you could now proceed to the 7 FUNDAMENTAL STEPS in learning HOW TO DANCE SALSA:

      On the first count, step forward with your left foot. Next, step in place with your right and bring your left foot back to center on the third count.

      Then pause at the fourth count or you could voluntarily tap your right foot.

      Remember that each step requires a full weight transfer.

      Finally on the eighth count, exhibit another pause.

      Since salsa is a dance with partners, be alert and careful that as one goes through the steps above, the other would move the other way around. With one’s left foot forward, the other’s right foot steps back.

      Anyone can be a dancer of salsa with its simple patterns. Nonetheless, improvement must always be present. Grace must be practiced in order to be blended with your moves. By doing so, you would get good effects on your dance. Dexterity would then be developed. There are different beats, patterns, and music which are variations of salsa. The elegant Cuban salsa would be one good example of a salsa variation. The Los Angeles style of salsa would also be another good comparison. Take your pick on which one to master!

      Salsa would help you maintain a fit figure and also have a good exercise plan (which saves you gym expenses). That is just a part of its benefits. It also gives you new friends when you interact with a partner, gain self-confidence better, and acquire skills. This dance could even change the way you look in life!
